July 24, 2007

Dear Field Representative,

I wanted to take the time to, first, send my greetings to each of you and personally thank you for the support you have given Narconon Arrowhead and the Narconon network.

Secondly, I wanted to brief you on the new direction NN Arrowhead is taking in our dissemination to destroy the false data that has permeated our society about addiction which, in turn, will help you get more starts signed up for Narconon. Have you ever wondered why you have to expend so much energy, time and effort to generate enough reaches in order to get enough starts to keep your field activity alive and viable? I think this briefing might answer that question for you.

A few months ago, we started a national survey that targeted addicts, their family members and friends. The purpose of the survey was to get a current read on the general viewpoint of addiction and recovery from those that were being directly affected by it. We have just completed the tabulation of this study. We got some incredible, but scary, information from this study. Unfortunately the results of how people view addiction today can be condensed down into two words: confused and hopeless. At the root of this viewpoint is false data on addiction. “Addiction is genetic,” “It is permanent,” “There is no cure for it,” “It is a brain disease,” “If you are an addict, your kids will be addicts,” etc., etc. It is this false data that creates the confusion and hopelessness.

This broad public viewpoint is the biggest barrier we have in getting people signed up for the program in big enough numbers to put a real dent in addiction planetwide.

For 30 years the traditional treatment community, with its drug and psychiatric company vested interests, has spent billions of dollars craftily disseminating this false data into society. You may not be aware of the fact that up until a few months ago, Narconon had created a major shift in viewpoint on a national scale about addiction. The years that were spent by Narconon centers and our Field Representatives (you) disseminating the program technology and truth about the causes of addiction, along with the thousands of successful graduates of the Narconon Program, made it popular to view addiction as a curable illness.

Narconon Arrowhead is a very good social barometer as to the feelings and attitudes about addiction on a national level. We constantly have opinion leaders from around the US and other countries coming to tour and see the Narconon program in action. About six months ago, Arrowhead started getting a parade of such opinion leaders from around the country contacting us to set up tours of the NN Arrowhead facility for no other reason than they heard that Narconon did not view addiction as an incurable permanent disease! And we had the results to prove it. It was honestly becoming popular to view addiction not as a disease, but as a matter of poor choices that a person made but could correct, thus ending their addiction. Many of these opinion leaders were in positions of influence over groups and committees that controlled funding for drug rehab programs and services.

Make no mistake, this had the pro “addiction is a permanent disease” camp upset. They united and launched a counter information campaign to get the people of influence in this country back to viewing addiction as a permanent and incurable disease of the brain. Then BANG, here comes the 14-part HBO special on addiction. If you saw this, you know that this information campaign was specifically designed to re-install the false concept of addiction and how it “must be treated indefinitely.” This disinformation campaign was launched with great fanfare. This created more confusion and hopelessness about addiction in society and it shows in the recent surveys mentioned above.

The Remedy

Arrowhead has launched a huge national media information campaign that will get the truth about addiction and its true remedy out through radio, TV, newspapers, magazines and other publications. We have just published a new booklet entitled Healing Addictive Lives complete with its own web site so this booklet can be easily downloaded as an e-book. The campaign includes a very professional, hard-hitting, 30-minute, nationally televised infomercial that will run on major cable networks. Each airing on each channel will reach between 40 and 90 million households. The purpose of this campaign is to strip off the false data about addiction and to teach that addiction is an illness that can be cured with the Narconon Program. In doing so, we will begin to dissolve the confusion and hopelessness about addiction, and again get hope for beating addiction restored, and addicts, family members and friends motivated to reach for help. Since Narconon is the only anti-drug group that is promoting addiction can be cured, this will ultimately help flank whatever promotion you are already doing and will help make it a little easier for you to find the people that can be started on the Narconon program.

On the heels of this campaign, Narconon Arrowhead’s Executive Council and myself have fired off a special project that is designed to beef up our Div Six activities which includes getting more trained and competent regges on post to service you, our Field Representatives and Referral Groups. I am pleased to announce two of our newest registrars in Division Six: Tempe Greene and Justin Fraser.

Tempe has been on Narconon staff for five years. She is a trained and experienced Ethics Officer, as well as competent and professional Registrar. Justin Fraser has been on staff for 1 ½ years and has just completed a six-month intensive Registrar training and internship program. Both of these individuals are very able. I have personally drilled them on the Dissemination Drill and other registrar tools, and I can attest that they both know what they are doing and are professionals in every sense of the word. Of course we still have our veterans: Paul Weiss, J.T. Daily, Desiree Cardoso and Johnny Sinhpraseut on board, who have also been doing additional training and drilling and are ready, able and willing to service you. Ryan Thorpe, Senior Director for Expansion, is commanding this awesome crew and I am working directly with him in overseeing the registration area.

Our message is loud, clear and true: Addiction CAN be cured. Together we are going to deliver the largest and hardest-hitting impact on addiction that this planet has ever seen! We are geared up and ready to help you in your endeavors. Let us know what we can do to help you take action right now!

Sincerely,

Gary W. Smith
Executive Director
